Research interests
My original research interest is the phylogeny and biodiversity of the largest group of fungi, the Ascomycota. Therein lichen-inhabiting fungi, various groups of cup-fungi, powdery mildew fungi, and Xylariales have been the subject of previous projects and publications. Over the past 25 years, I have turned to biodiversity informatics and data science , e.g. Open Access Paper on Megascience Platforms, pdf. Within this field my focus is now on creating concepts for data management and processing and implementing IT infrastructures for organizing, archiving, and accessing collection data, any type of collection-relevant research data from biodiversity and ecology projects, and data from (citizen science) monitoring projects.
