Note (by S. J. HUGHES, Ottawa, Canada): The fungus has been collected regularly for several years on attached and fallen branches of the same tree. Ascospores germinate readily and on malt agar, produce black colonies bearing pale brown phragmospores in loose sporodochia. Note (by M. STADLER, Wuppertal): The mitosporic state Crinula caliciiformis Fr. is also present. The meiosporic and mitosporic states both contained the same major metabolites as revealed from HPLC-MS and HPLC-UV analyses of methanolic extracts. These metabolites are most probably identical with esquiterpenoid metabolites of the LL-Z-1271 type reported from the Crinula-state of Holwaya mucida by VAN EIJK, ROEIJMANS & VAN DER AA, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek J.
