leg. G. Marson
det. H. O. Baral
Note (by H. O. Baral, Tübingen, Germany): The fungus is accompanied by Baggea sp., Durella spp., Hysterium sp., Hysteropatella sp., Orbilia spp., Perrotia flammea (Alb. & Schwein.) Boud., Phragmiticola sp., Pleospora sp., Propolis versicolor (Fr.) Fr., Stictis sp. and Teichosporella sp. It is habitually indistinguishable from Propolis viridis Dufour with which it also shares the mediterranean distribution and xerophilic habitat. Melittosporiella Höhn. differs from Propolis Fr. by bitunicate asci and 3-septate ascospores with only small lipid bodies near the septa. In several North American collections of M. pulchella studied the spores were somewhat larger [(13–) 17–22 (–23.3) x 4.5–6.2 (–8.5) μm] in comparison to European material (12–17 x 3.8–5.8 μm), but are shorter than those reported for the North American Melittosporiella macrospora Sherwood (22–27 x 6.5–7.5 μ7.5m). Propolis viridis Dufour will be distributed in a next fascicle of Microf. Exs.
