Note (by H. O. Baral Tübingen, Germany): This fungus which occurs on needles of various conifers should be placed in the genus Phaeohelotium Kanouse if this taxonomic entity is separated at generic level from Hymenoscyphus Gray. A similar taxon on coniferous debris is Hymenoscyphus cf. sazavae (Velen.) Svrcek. It was distributed in Triebel, Microf. Exs. no. 30 and treated under the name Helotium cf. sulphuratum by Baral & Krieglsteiner, Zeitschr. Mykol., Beih. 6: 137, 1985. The species distributed now is distinguished from H. cf. sazavae by the non-amyloid asci arising from croziers and by the ascospores with many minute lipid bodies. It is mentioned in Baral & Krieglsteiner, l. c.,” Etwas Ähnliches …” ). For a final conclusion about the confirmation of this taxon as Peziza sulphurata Schumach. : Fr. the type material has to be studied.
